Your Guide to Nozzle Selection for Sprayers

One of the most crucial decisions to make when applying pesticides is which nozzle for the sprayer to use. Not only does the kind of nozzle affect the volume of sprayer pumps applied to a certain area, but it also affects the uniformity of the applied spray, the coverage achieved on sprayed surfaces, and the amount of drift that can occur.

Each nozzle type has its own set of features and capabilities and is intended for usage in specific applications. Flat-fan, even flat-fan, and cone nozzle for sprayers are the most frequent forms for applying agricultural pesticides to the ground.

Controlling the Nozzle

Various nozzle for sprayer bodies and caps, including color-coded variants, are available, as well as multiple nozzle bodies with threads and quick-attaching adapters. The cap's nozzle tips may be swapped out and come in a range of materials, including hardened stainless steel, stainless steel, brass, ceramic, and several types of plastic.

The most wear-resistant materials are hardened stainless steel and ceramic, but they are also the most expensive.

Choosing a Nozzle Tip

The proper nozzle for sprayer tip size is determined by the application rate in gallons per acre (GPA), ground speed (MPH), and each nozzle's effective spray width (W). The best way to choose the right nozzle tip size is to figure out how many gallons per minute (GPM) of nozzle output you need and then pick a nozzle tip size that will deliver that flow rate when operated within the acceptable pressure range.

When choosing a nozzle for sprayer tip size, don't rely on the "gallons per acre" rating that some manufacturers give their nozzles for sprayer pumps. This rating is valid only under normal circumstances (usually 30 psi, 4 MPH, and 20-inch nozzle spacings). If there is any deviation from the standard, the gallon per acre rating is worthless.
